The annual consumer price inflation was 6.6% in January 2017, down from 6.8% in December 2016, Statistics South Africa announced on Wednesday. Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased 11.4% year-on-year mainly because of drought conditions. These products contribute 22% of the basket of goods measured.

Die jaarlikse verbruikersprysinflasie was 6,6% in Januarie 2017, ’n daling vergeleke met die 6,8%-syfer vir Desember 2016, het Statistieke Suid-Afrika laas Woensdag aangekondig. Voedsel en nie-alkoholiese drank, wat 22% van die gemete mandjie goedere verteenwoordig, het 11,4% jaar-tot-jaar toegeneem, hoofsaaklik weens droogtetoestande.
